Revive Adserver Project TeamRevive Adserver is an open source project, dedicated to building and supporting the open source ad server software and the community of users around the world.
System administrators of existing installations of OpenX Source v2.8 (and older) have started receiving a notification when they log in, informing them that a new version of the software is available. The notification also includes a link to download the most recent release of the software, Revive Adserver v3.0.0.
All seems to have gone flawlessly, except I would add one thing at the end of the upgrade guide – if things don’t seem to be working right, switch to Administrator and check your plugins. After the upgrade, Revive Adserver had all plugins disabled, including even the basic ones for standard reporting, as well as the MaxMind Geotargeting plugin, etc. All plugins were disabled. This could cause some serious confusion for others, thinking the system isn’t working properly after upgrade. I suggest you add this to the end of your otherwise very helpful upgrade guide.
We upgraded mainly because of problems in our OpenX 2.8.10 install where there were some serious issues with under/over delivery on campaigns, and we have our fingers crossed that some of these bugs have been corrected.
After the upgrade, I’m thankful to say, the probabilities being reported for zones seem far more realistic to the actual campaign parameters, but we have yet to put this through a full publishing day to see if it truly does “work as it should” now.
At any rate, thank your team for keeping OpenX alive. We are one of those die-hards that, regardless of its issues, still prefer OpenX Source/Revive Adserver to the only two viable alternatives for us (Google DFP and Adzerk). I hope you can rally enough troops to keep this project moving forward and improving.

Side note, all of the plugins activated and seem to work normally after simply clicking ‘activate’ on each.
The issue of the plugins getting disabled during the upgrade has been reported by others as well, see this issue on the Github project pages: https://github.com/revive-adserver/revive-adserver/issues/103 . It will be addressed in the next release. I can tell from personal experience that it seems to be a random event, because I’ve also had cases where the plugins remained enabled during the upgrade.
I’m glad you’ve noticed what seems to be a change in the delivery of contract campaigns, please let us know if it turns out to be a lasting improvement.
Thanks again, on behalf of the Revive Adserver team, Erik Geurts

Erik,
So far, so good on delivery, which we are very happy about.
I would still consider adding a note or something at the end of the upgrade guide regarding this issue until it is fully addressed in the next release.
There are many publishers such as myself who do not have actual IT/developer folks on hand, and after completing the upgrade would just assume it isn’t “working right” should they encounter this issue, and wouldn’t think to check GitHub, nor even know what GitHub is.
I’d hate to see others ‘revert’ back to their old installs simply because they think Revive “isn’t working right” because all of the plugins – including basic reporting plugins – are disabled. I say this because Revive seems to be delivering our campaigns far more accurately so far than did OpenX Source v2.8.10, and I’d hate to see other publishers roll back to previous installs as a result of this – however random – issue.
I just wanted to say thanks for upgrading OpenX Source. I was just looking to convert my ad server to something else (problems with the older version) when I noticed the upgrade notification. This is fantastic news!
We have recently completed an upgrade from OpenX Source 2.8.10 to Revive Adserver 3.0.0 using the very helpful guide on the new Revive Adserver web site here: https://www.revive-adserver.com/support/upgrading/

Hello Tim,
Thanks for your feedback about the campaign pacing in Revive Adserver. Glad to see that things have improved for you!
Following your recommendation, we’ve just added a paragraph to the instructions for upgrading from OpenX Source v2.8 to Revive Adserver v3.0.0, explaining how to check if plugins are enabled, and how to enable them if they are not.
Regards, on behalf of the Revive Adserver team, Erik Geurts
