Every Revive Adserver instances contacts our “sync server” at midnight every night to check if there is a new version of the software available.
We count how many installations contact the sync server each night, and show the size of the user base in this graph.
Note about counts from October 2015 to April 2016:
It won’t go unnoticed that the graph was not growing as quickly as before between October 2015 and April 2016. In February 2016, there is even a slight decline in the total number of active instances we were able to count.
While at first it might look like the number of installed instances is decreasing, this is in fact the result of a bug in the Revive Adserver software that was exposed only when a recent change occurred in the PHP. More and more servers and hosting providers began upgrading to this newer PHP version, and as a result, the affected installations were no longer able to connect to the sync server, and therefore the sync server was no longer able to count that installation.
The bug was fixed in the Revive Adserver v3.2.3 (released on March 2, 2016), and the active instance count has started to increase again when more and more installations are being upgraded.
